JAZZ: London Jazz Festival begins on Friday. It's BIG. Check out our map of venues and recommendations but take a look at the official website for full listings and tickets.

CHRISTMAS MARKETS: Find a festive market near you and pick up some presents while scoffing a mince pie.

PARKLAND WALK: Join the Capital Clean Up along the Parkland Walk and help clear litter, builder's rubbish and fly-tippers' crap. Around 200-300 people are needed to help so don't be shy! Gloves etc provided.  Free, briefings at 10am

DANCE: Cloud Dance Festival brings a three-day showcase of new and established choreographic dance talent to Bernie Grant Arts Centre, Tottenham. Also, dance workshops and a session for emerging dance writers. Tickets £12, £10 concessions.

WASTED: The Last Word spoken word festival at Roundhouse starts on Saturday with two opportunities to see Kate Tempest's south London show Wasted. Read our festival preview and book tickets now.

AFFORDABLE ART: 13 The Gallery hosts its Affordable Fair, with a special focus on children. Meet London artists and buy jewellery, children's books and illustrations and other artwork direct from them at 13 Green Lanes, Newington Green. Free entry, 12-6pm

YOUNG FILM: Framed Film Festival at Barbican is an annual showcase of the best of international films, events and creative learning opportunities, aimed at children under 12 and teenagers. Many of the film screenings are £5/£3 and on Saturday you learn stop-motion animation techniques with artist Reza Ben Gajra in a free workshop. See website for full details, until 24 November

PARLIAMENT: Get involved in Parliament week: take part in UK Parliament Hack 2013, visit the Travelling Museum of British Invention, Trace Trade through the City and more - look up what's happening here.

ARCHIVES: It's Explore Your Archive week and the V&A invites you into theirs at Blythe House, Olympia (10am, book, £7.50). Tower Hamlets holds an Archive Open Day with talks, screenings and treasures to discover (free, 11am-4pm) and Vestry House Museum opens up a century of Waltham Forest Memories (free, 3pm).

WINE: Buy it out of an independent wine shop's car boot at the Wine C4R B00T sale at Arch E, Union Car Park, Great Suffolk Street, SE1 0UE. Tickets £10+bkg, includes first five samples, tasting glass & wine carrier. Open 12-6pm

NUCLEAR Q: DocHouse take on the Nuclear Question with an afternoon of documentaries and discussion about nuclear energy at the Brixton Ritzy. Day tickets £20/£18, screenings also priced individually. From 12pm

SOMERSET: Enjoy cider, BBQ, live music, crafts and games at the Republic of Somerset event at Queen of Hoxton. Free entry before 8pm, £7 after, 12-10pm

CROUCH END MUSIC: On Friday and Saturday, The End Festival mixes world-class touring acts with homegrown talent. Tickets 1 day £15, 2 days £25.

3D RUGBY: England take on New Zealand in the final QBE international test this afternoon, and the Rugby Football Union have teamed up with ODEON cinemas nationwide to screen the match live and in 3D. If you fancy seeing balls hurtling towards your face at great speed, then book your spot at the Kensington or Greenwich ODEON. £14.50, prebook, 2pm

ORCHESTRA: New ensemble London Euphonia Orchestra play their third concert at St Sepulchre-without-Newgate Church with a programme of Faure and Khatchaturian. Tickets £10+bkg, £8 concessions, starts 7.30pm

THE SHIP: You voted it one of the best pubs in Kennington & Oval and it's celebrating 250 years today - happy big birthday to The Ship. They're throwing a pirate-themed party with lots of cake. Free entry, just turn up from 8pm

TWITCHERS: A new twist (twitch?) on the dating game: The Royal Society for the Pursuit of Love Birds (RSPLB) hosts Twitchers Club, an ornithological dating night at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club. Tickets £6+bkg online, £8 on the door, 9pm-2am

Sunday 17 November

MERTON BUS GARAGE:  Join in the garage's centenary celebrations at the Bus Depot on Merton High Street with tours, heritage bus and bus wash rides. Free, just turn up, 10.30am-4.30pm

BEES: Find out about bee keeping and all things wax and honey at the Bee Urban Open Day, Keeper's Lodge, Kennington Park. Free, just turn up, 11am-5pm

RUGBY: Saracens play Scarlets at Allianz Park, NW4. Full time students get tickets from £15 plus beer at £1.50 a pint, adult tickets available from £22. KO 3pm

GIG: Our mates recommend rock band Hangarvain live at Nambucca, Holloway Road (check 'em out on YouTube). Tickets £5 advance, £6 on the door, doors 7pm

ANOTHER GIG: Our resident expert recommends Miraculous Mule at the Lexington, Pentonville Road for "Anglo-Irish Honky Gospel" plus burlesque, mandolin and a free shot of bourbon - no UGG boots please. Tickets £9.99 adv, £12 on the door, 8pm-4am
