We’re now assessing the damage wrought by last night’s storm. A 17 year old girl in Hever, Kent, was killed when a tree fell where she was sleeping, and a man in Watford died after a falling tree crushed his car. London Fire Brigade has been at a gas explosion in Bath Road, Hounslow, where three houses collapsed and another two were damaged. Three people were taken to hospital suffering from burns. Initial reports suggested a falling tree had ruptured a gas main, but the LFB’s official statement says the cause is under investigation. Update 3.45pm: it’s been confirmed that two people have been found dead.
London Ambulance has treated several people hit by falling trees; and Chris Brosnahan took a photo of a large metal decoration at a Wood Green bus stop that has come off and fallen through the glass roof, hitting a man on the way down. Chris spoke to local Wetherspoons staff who did first aid and say he’s going to be OK.
A crane has collapsed onto the Cabinet Office and the BBC has photos of scaffolding that’s come down in Leyton. And of course, there’s still transport chaos across the network as debris is cleared from train lines.
