Starship London: From Docklands To The Stars

starship1Will our species ever make the Star Trek leap and find a way to travel between the stars? A number of organisations are hoping to 'make it so', and invite you to attend the Starship London gathering in the Royal Docks this weekend.

The day begins with a series of talks on the allure of deep space. Topics include:

  • What is a starship?
  • How do we build one?
  • Where do we go when we have one?
  • How far have we got?

Some 'black sky thinking' will then attempt to tease novel ideas for interstellar travel out of those in attendance. Finally, enjoy a screening on 1963 cult sci-fi film Ikarie XB-1.

The all-day event takes place at The Crystal in the Royal Docks. Why not start a day aimed at discussing novel and expensive technologies for traversing featureless expanses, by catching the cable car from Greenwich Peninsula? And while you're there, check out the exhibition of futuristic tube trains.

Starship London on 12 October 2013 (11am) is part of the Sci-Fi London Oktoberfest (11-13 October), a series of science fiction film screenings and events. The event is held in association with the Institute for Interstellar Studies. No entry charge is mentioned, but you should pre-book.
