Milton Court Opens Its Doors For First Music Season

The City of London's new music venue, Milton Court, opens its doors today for its first season of music.

The new home of Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Milton Court’s state of the art facilties include a 600-seat music venue, providing London audiences with something the Barbican Centre never could — a medium-sized concert hall.

We’ve been looking forward to the opening for some time. We were lucky enough to get a behind the scenes visit back in April, and recently chatted with Principal Barry Ife about the history and future of Guidhall School in our Londonist Out Loud podcast.

The inaugural season stretches across the next nine months with an array of chamber music, classical recitals and world-class musicians. Opening this evening is a performance by the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra (1 seat left at time of writing if you want to grab it!). Across the months, Londoners can expect performances by the BBC Singers, The Nightingale String Quartet and the Mariinsky Stradivarius Ensemble.

Britten Sinfonia’s celebrated wind section teams up with pianist Imogen Cooper in Febraury 2014 for music by Beethoven and Mozart, while Austrian mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager joins the Academy of Ancient Music to sing Haydn and Mozart in March.

Milton Court’s Classical Season 2013-2014 opens 4 October 2013 with performances through to 13 June 2014. Prices vary according to performance.
