Our selection of London’s alternative, clever and offbeat comedy gigs this week.
Tiny Scottish Susan Calman headlines Happy Mondays. There will doubtless be jokes about cats, but also sharply observed sideswipes at life. Joining her in New Cross are Ginger & Black, Lucy Beaumont and MC Holly Walsh. 21 October, £5, 8pm
We have a lot of love for this trio who don’t make the common sketch error of mistaking silliness for jokes. It’s a new show at Invisible Dot in Kings Cross on 21-22 October (note: video below isn’t entirely safe for work). £6, 9.45pm
Ugly Animal Preservation Society
Cute endangered animals get all the attention. Pandas? Yeah, make some effort please. At The Book Club, a line-up of comedians including Helen Arney, Simon Watt, Sarah Bennetto and Steve Mould each champion an ugly animal in a bid to get society to accept a new mascot. Get your voting fingers ready on 23 October. £8.80, 8pm
The utterly marvellous Last Leg host brings his show Happyism to Blackheath Halls. There’s still a handful of seats left, so book now. 24 October, £16 / £14, 8pm
