We do like local food festivals that really get to the heart of the community; Streatham was a big hit last month, and now it’s Nunhead’s turn.
The Appetite Festival runs 20 September-6 October with events big and small, and for people big and small. A cocktails and canapes party starts everything off on Friday at Bambuni, but the first big day is Sunday 22 September for the Feast on the Green. Infinite Jest perform Much Ado About Nothing, or if Shakespeare’s not your thing you can listen to local music and choirs, while you picnic on street food and local ale and browse a gourmet food fair.
Saturday 5 October is another big day: follow the Food Trail for free samples of local businesses’ wares, including one of the few places in London you can get cronuts: Ayres the Baker. If you want a guide for your succulent wanderings, Fantasy High Street is putting together tours on 5 October at 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm for £10 or £30 family (plus booking fee).
In between are events ranging from London’s craft beers at The Old Nun’s Head, a supper club from chef Brian Fantoni, secret tea party, sherry and food matching, artists’ trails and stories and nibbles for under 5s.
Appetite Festival Nunhead runs 20 September-6 October at various venues. Prices vary. For more details see the Appetite Festival website.
