Walk In The Footsteps Of Writers

London is full of literary heritage, and during October there are 40 walks to help you discover it away from the page.

Footprints of London is a collection of independent professional guides who do all kinds of walks around the city. For October, they've decided to put together a collection of walks and events based around writers and books. Follow in the footsteps of Mary Poppins or Mrs Dalloway, find out about Shakespeare's life in Shoreditch and the City, as well as the more traditional hunting ground of Bankside (if you have strong feet you can even do all three of these walks in the same day).

Because the guides are all qualified, you're sure to learn about the lives of Orwell, Dickens, Chaucer and Pepys as well as the areas connected with them. If you're more interested in finding out about the literary connections of an area rather than a particular author, that's covered too: try Chelsea, Covent Garden, Fleet Street and the Strand. London Destroyed sounds fun, too – see the bits of the capital that writers feel the need to destroy in dystopian fiction again and again.

The Literary Footprint walks take place between 3-27 October, tickets are £10 or £7.50 concessions.
