Three Seriously Injured In New-Bus-For-London Smash

The bus involved in the collision, coincidentally pictured by Vincent Lo a few hours before the crash.

Fifteen people were injured, three seriously, when a number 11 bus careered into a line of stationary traffic in Chelsea yesterday. The New Bus For London was reportedly 'in service' but not following its set route.

The pile-up, which occurred around 1pm on Chelsea Bridge Road, included three buses and three cars, one of which was severely crumpled. Pictures show that the front end of the new bus was also badly damaged. The driver is one of those in hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Evening Standard, the bus had only been in service for one day. It's not yet known how it came to be off-route, or why it ploughed into other vehicles. One apparent witness, @ontheriverdave, tweeted: "This was no ordinary bus, I saw a bus with what looked like a stuck throttle/no brakes, big impact, 30mph+ really nasty!! :(". The same source also suggested the bus had ran a red light, although this has yet to be confirmed.

Transport for London has launched an investigation into the incident, and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
