FREE FILM: Free! Film! The Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival returns today with more than 30 film screenings across its run. Tonight, celebrate its opening with a screening of the 1966 film The Gospel According to St Matthew, as well as a showcase of the SE15 Young Filmmakers Competition entries. MOTHER SHUCKER: A pop-up oyster and whisky bar celebrating The Scotch Malt Whisky Society's 30th anniversary is in Seven Dials, Covent Garden from today. Pop along for a sensory adventure. Free, just turn up, 12-9pm daily until 8 September

LONDON ARTISTS: Art As Awakening showcases four London artists, their artwork highlighting personal journeys and awakened emotions through art production. At Conway Hall. Free, just turn up, until 6 September

LIFE SAVERS: Learn some crucial first aid today at Paddington, Euston and Liverpool Street stations, where members of St John Ambulance, the nation’s leading first aid charity, will be giving free life saving demonstrations in aid of their Save a Life September campaign. AT SEA: Mikey Buckley takes us  through his adventures in a rowing boat at The Grosvenor pub in Stockwell. Firstly his attempt to achieve the Atlantic Speed Record Crossing and secondly, his latest trip in a non-stop rowing race around Great Britain. £4, prebook, 7.30pm

COMEDY: St James Theatre’s Studio is an odd place to watch comedy: basically it’s rather posh, the kind of place you quaff a classy bottle of red than sink pints of cooking lager. Head there anyway tonight to catch Zoe Lyons –  a must if you’re a fan of acerbic wit. £15/£12.50, prebook, 8pm

Good Cause of the Day

Primrose Hill is the setting for the annual PupAid event, taking place this Saturday 7 September. A very dog-friendly event, activities include a celebrity-judged dog show, doggy displays, shopping, a family BBQ, and free microchipping. PupAid aims to educate people about the horrors of puppy farming and works to change this appalling industry. Free, just turn up, 10am-5.30pm Saturday 7 September (even if you can't go, you can sign PupAid's e-petition to stop puppy farming here)
