The Very First Hornsey Music Festival

Inside the GNRT by Hugh via Harringay Online

Hornsey's local pubs, shops, streets and the Village Green will have a free and funky festival vibe this weekend for the very first Hornsey Music Festival. Created by local musician, James Hayto, the aim is to raise the profile of the thriving community around Hornsey High Street and showcase local talent and all that the area has to offer.

The revamped Great Northern Railway Tavern (GNRT) will be home to folk music and Americana with 18 live bands performing over three days. Swing, jazz and blues find a home at the Three Compasses and the Hornsey Tavern's showing the football, and putting on a karaoke evening and some good old fashioned rock 'n' roll.

The Village Green is where you'll find young local talent performing, a drum workshop and open mic sessions plus fairground style side-shows, a tea cup ride, face painting and other kids' stuff for when they tire of dancing to the music. Market stalls outside the GNRT will proffer street food, cake and jam and there's an exhibition, talks and film screenings about 500 years of music and local history at Brand New Start, poetry in the 13th century St Mary's Tower and more market stalls and kids' stuff in the Garden Shop.

A great weekend to find out what Hornsey's all about.

Hornsey Music Festival takes place from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 September. All events are free but feel free to put some money in the charity buckets.

Check before you travel. Hornsey has its own railway station but trains are disrupted between King's Cross and Finsbury Park this weekend.
