The National Theatre brings the latest in innovative and challenging theatre to The Shed with Limited Editions - a 12 day series of original work from exciting new theatre makers.

Each of the five shows has a different story, a different style and is sure to offer a different experience. What will you choose?

For the experience

First up is The Bullet and The Bass Trombone — a fractured tale about a concert orchestra, trapped in a city, who have become separated during a miltary coup. Lost yet hopeful, with pitched battles breaking out around them, they try to find their way back to each other. Accompanied by a haunting soundtrack, The Bullet and The Bass Trombone is a modern hymn to people and places now lost.

For the movement

"It's the decade of all or nothing and a magical storm is gathering pace..."

With exciting choreography, bizarre characters and an eclectic soundtrack, Squally Showers is a fantastic ballet farce by Little Bulb Theatre that explores politics, power, loneliness and love in the whirlwind that was the 1980s.

For the honesty

For the past 2 years Dan Canham has been capturing conversations with people of the fens in East Anglia. Eel-catchers, horse breeders and young farmers have all been interviewed. The result is an ethereal piece of dance-theatre, where movement and sound are fused with the words and memories of those at the real heart of the Fens. Ours Was The Fen Country takes a poetic look at a disappearing community and the wrenching inevitability of change.

For the action

An epic tale of violence, greed and ... cheap sofas. RIOT is a true story of how, on 10 February 2005, the British public punched, kicked and eventually stabbed their way to £45 sofas and £35 bed frames at the opening of a well-known Swedish furniture store. Hammered together with physical theatre and music, The Wardrobe Ensemble construct a thoroughly modern comedic tragedy bursting with characters and chaos.

For the heart

Matty may be off to college in an hour – but although he has left it to Mum to pack his case, he is no ordinary teenager. Up Down Boy is an honest and uplifting play, inspired by the extraordinary life story of a boy with Down’s syndrome and his mother’s humorous perspective on bringing him up. In this unique production, the gifted and charismatic Nathan Bessell plays the central character Matty, drawing on his own life experiences.
