Green Day have announced a one-off show in Brixton next week. The gig, at O2 Academy Brixton, takes place on 21 August and is a warm-up before the US punk-rockers headline the Reading and Leeds Festivals the following weekend.
With the release of a lacklustre album trilogy in 2012 and a subsequent spell in rehab for front man Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day's recent history has been somewhat chequered.
However, that doesn't seem to have blunted their live appeal in the slightest. When they played to a sell-out crowd at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium back in June, they delivered a career-spanning set that received generally excellent reviews.
In any case, those of us who had our teenage years soundtracked by classic albums Dookie and Nimrod will want to grab this chance to see one of the world's biggest rock bands in a relatively small venue.
