ELEPHANT & NUN: Ten days of stuff and nonsense start across Elephant & Castle, Peckham, Camberwell and Nunhead with The Elephant and the Nun festival.

GEEK OUT: Nine Worlds GeekFest is a weekend-long, fan-led convention covering gaming, film, cosplay, fandom, literature, science and generally having an incredibly geeky great time. It all takes place at the Renaissance and Radisson Edwardian hotels near Heathrow. Tickets from £23.75, all proceeds to charity, runs Friday to Sunday.

FAMILY FESTIVAL: Bounce Festival has something for all the kids, whether it's beat boxing, fun science, sheep shearing, cooking, comedy, circus, art or street dance. It takes place over Saturday and Sunday in Old Deer Park, Richmond. Tickets £18 in advance, more on the door, open 10am-6pm

CAMDEN FRINGE: There are over 30 different shows you could watch at Camden Fringe this weekend. Check the website for full and up to date listings Tickets from £5, until 25 August.

ART & TECH: You are invited to Hack the Barbican throughout August. Here's what's happening on Saturday and Sunday. Probably best just to go and wander around, see what you can get involved with, collaborate on or learn about. Free, drop-in.

PROMS: The Proms roll on with the Urban Classic Prom and the Free Prom, feat. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Here’s how to prom. Tickets from £5.

KINGSTON: Kingston Food Festival offers plenty of free food events including a local food trail, plus StockMKT night market is visiting.

TIMEPIECE: The Roundhouse’s summer installation is open for you to gaze upon. Conrad Shawcross has turned the Main Space into a clock of sorts, go have a look. Plus on Sunday afternoon, Wayne McGregor’s Random Dance will be performing in the shadows. Pay what you like, 10am-8pm

LONDON BRIDGE: Watch out for young people performing in and around Hay’s Galleria, Potters Fields Park and London City Pier. Free, just turn up, 12-4pm

KEW: Spend a lazy afternoon at Kew, with a half price ticket and gates open till 7.30pm. £7 adults, under 16s free, just turn up from 3.30pm

Saturday 10 August

ICE: Cool down the kids with an icy activity day at London Canal Museum. It's a day of fun to celebrate the completion of the ice well project. Make and taste ice cream the Victorian way, explore the improved ice well, hear a brass band play. Admission £4 adults, £2 children, open 10am-4.30pm

BEACH RUGBY: Covent Garden's East Piazza hosts the second day of London Beach Rugby tournament on an imported sand pitch. Free, just turn up, 11am-6pm

VISIONS FESTIVAL: A new music festival takes place across three Hackney venues: Netil House, Oval Space and London Fields Brewery with art + streetfood. Tickets £27, prebook/wristband collection, starts 1pm

FAMILY FUN: Collaborate on pavement art and meet Pigeon Poo People outside the National Theatre. Free, just turn up, from 1pm

LITERARY LAMBETH: Explore the writers and poets of Lambeth on this new walk, led by Laura Reynolds. £3, prebook, 2pm

SALSA: Join an outdoor salsas party, the Big Brixton Boogie X outside the Ritzy. Free, just turn up, 3-9pm

MUSICAL WALK: Take a musical journey from Borough to Bermondsey with musical storyteller Nigel of Bermondsey, with musical performances taking place at locations that have inspired him. We are told to expect mild terror, supernatural fairytales and songs of pathos. £4, prebook, 7pm

Sunday 11 August

PEOPLE OF HAVERING: Join Thames21 in cleaning up the River Rom, Grenfell Park. Free, equipment provided, just turn up, 10am-1pm

VIEWTUBE: The free family fun day at ViewTube has a green theme. Free, drop-in, 12-5pm

LEGO: Reimagine London and build it in Lego at the Royal Academy of Arts. This is a family friendly event so please play nicely. Free, just turn up, 11am-2pm

WILLIAM BLAKE: Mark the anniversary of Blake's death at a graveside gathering in Bunhill Fields with readings and a performance from the Arbonauts. Free, just turn up, 12pm

FILM: A free documentary screening tonight at Dalston Social. Secrets of the Tribe is the story of how an indigenous Amazonian tribe became the most exhaustively documented tribe on earth. Free, just turn up, 2pm

BOWIE: It's the last day of the V&A's David Bowie Is exhibition and there'll be a proper glam gathering on the steps of the museum for Occupy Bowie "a participatory event for visual extremists of all stripes". Strike a pose. Free, just turn up (dressed up), 3pm
