London Metropolitan Archives in Clerkenwell is the city's memory banks, holding gazillions of records from London's history. Like any archive, it can feel a bit daunting for the first-time visitor, so the centre puts on regular introductory days on popular themes.
Next up is an event dedicated to Shakespeare and London on 6 September. Visitors will be able to pore over original documents from the Bard's time, listen to talks on the inns and taverns, street life, plagues and diseases and — intriguingly — the 'rough pleasures' of the Elizabethan city.
The event also includes a tour around LMA's current exhibition on a similar theme, which closes on 28 September.
You'll come away not only with an increased appreciation of Shakespeare's London, but also an insatiable itch to get stuck into the Archives' vast holdings.
