A Taste Of Mauritius…In North London

mauritian

Now in its fifth year, the family-friendly Mauritian Open Air Festival takes place at Down Lane Park in Tottenham on 18 August. You’ll feel fully immersed in Mauritian culture at this lively outdoor celebration, offering traditional cuisine from the tropical island, plus entertainment that includes dancing and live performances from some of the Mauritius’ biggest musical stars.

Kick back and enjoy the feel-good Sega music that Mauritius is famous for. With its colourful Creole (broken-French) lyrics and rhythmic sounds, it’ll transport you to Mauritius’ sun-kissed beaches. Taste a specially imported Phoenix beer or some Mauritian rum, or go for the healthy option and grab a freshly sliced young coconut and slurp out its water with a straw.

Other diversions include a fashion show, a raffle, plus face painting and a funfair to keep little ones happy.

With just under 50,000 people of Mauritian descent living in London, there’s sure to be a jolly atmosphere. Entry is £6.50 for adults, and children under 10 go free. We’d recommended you buy your tickets online in advance to avoid queuing on the day.

Mauritian Open Air Festival, Down Lane Park, Tottenham, 18 August, from noon.
