London welcomed a rather special George to the city this week, but he's certainly not the first famous Londoner with that moniker.

Here's a selection of photos celebrating various Georges around the city, including kings, saints, singers, hippos and pseudonymous writers. We've even snuck Bromley-born Herbert George (Wells) in there for good measure.

Many thanks to our Flickr photographers: L'habitant, pixelhut, redpopcreative, Past London, Francesco Camardo, tezzer57, Zefrog, Belfegore, firstnameunknown, and M@ (happy birthday).
