Monday 15 July

ISLINGTON EXHIBITS: Giving local artists spaces to display their work, Islington Exhibits has over 100 artists exhibiting new work in over 35 venues in the area. Check the website for full listings. Free, some events require booking, until 31 July

PHOTOGRAPHY: The Aperture Woolwich Photographic Society showcases some of their group's best work over the past year at an exhibition at Charlton House. Free, just turn up, until 31 July

ART: If you missed the Borough of Richmond’s annual Open Studios ARThouse Festival, you still have a chance to see some of the local artists' works on display at Riverside Gallery in Richmond. Free, just turn up, until 27 July

OPEN AIR BALLET: Students from the Central School of Ballet perform a specially commissioned ballet piece on the steps of St Paul's today, as part of the City of London Festival. Free, just turn up, 12.15pm and 1.15pm

WALKING WAPPING: Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives presents a walking tour of Wapping, led by the Borough Archivist, Malcolm Barr-Hamilton. £4, prebook, 7pm

Tuesday 16 July

ILLLDN: Three illustrators inspired by London life take part in the group art show, illLDN at Rich Mix. Come along to see London life depicted in still life, urban portrait work and cartoon form. Free, just turn up, until 28 July

GIG: Canadian singer songwriter Josh Taerk, who has been likened to Bruce Springsteen and Counting Crows, performs at the Hoxton Underbelly tonight. £4/£2, just turn up, 7.30pm

Wednesday 17 July

SEX ON SCREEN: A film screening that explores how experimental filmmakers have addressed the issue of sex as a political gesture. Films include Un chant d'amour by Jean Genet, Fuses by Carolee Schneemann and Sodom by Luther Price. Free, prebook, 6pm

60S AT 50: Join the Archives for London Summer Soiree to celebrate the music, fashion and fun of the swinging 60s at Duke of York Square. Free, just turn up, 6pm

BRAZILIAN STREET ART: Brazilian urban artist Derlon showcases his art in his first UK exhibition, From Manguetown, at 71a Gallery by Old Street from today. Free, just turn up, until 23 July

SHOW'N'TELL: Take part in the great American tradition of show and tell at the Grant Museum of Zoology, where UCL researchers will showcase an object from the museum's collection and tell you what they know about it. Free, just turn up, 1-2pm

WALK IN THE LIGHT: Walk in the Light is a week of events at the National Theatre honouring the contribution that black artists have made to British theatre over the past 50 years. Today David Harewood and Gary Wilmot talk about their careers, and writer Bonnie Greer, playwright Winsome Pinnock, actor Hugh Quarshie and director Paulette Randall join Burt Caesar to discuss their experiences of this period. £4/£3 per event, prebook, 3pm and 6pm

UNIVERSE LATES: The excellent Visions of the Universe exhibition at the National Maritime Museum opens late every Thursday for specially selected live music from Trinity Laban. Tonight, Masters' violinist Nadine Nagen is joined by oboist Lenia Christodolou and pianist Irina Lyakhovskaya, in performing works by Bach, Bloch and Debussy. Free (although if you want to see the exhibition too that costs £8), just turn up, 6.30pm

EASTERN EUROPEANS: The Romanian Cultural Centre in London presents two comedy performances highlighting the preconceptions people often have regarding Eastern European people. Free, prebook, 6.30pm

WRITING: Read and evaluate four new pieces of script writing and offer feedback to the writers themselves as part of Genesis New Writing Night at Bar Paragon. Free, prebook, 7pm

Friday 19 July

SON CUBANO: Latin salsa band Son Yambu play authentic Afro-Cuban music that originated in the streets of eastern Cuba at the turn of the last century, at the Royal Albert Hall. Free, just turn up, 12pm

LUNCHTIME CONCERT: Free lunchtime concerts at St Andrew by the Wardrobe continue today with a programme of Britten, Maxwell, Reade, Hesketh and Dorati, performed by oboist Louise Hayter. Free, just turn up, 12.30pm

FESTIVAL: Brockwell Park hosts the 39th annual Lambeth Country Show - a free festival with live music, traditional games, competitions, parades, workshops, performances and more. Free, just turn up, until 21 July

SLOW MOTION LONDON: Join the Petrie Museum's Timekeeper Cathy Haynes and alternative tour guide Rosie Oliver for a special tour looking for pockets of London where time slows down. Be quick, this one will sell out fast. Free, prebook, 11am-2pm

Sunday 21 July

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEXANDRA PARK: Join the 150th birthday celebrations of Alexandra Park with a free community event celebrating what the park has seen over the last 150 years. There will be a bandstand, a farmers' market, archery, a funfair, face painting, park walks, an activity zone and more. Free, just turn up, 11am-4pm

KNEES-UP: Get your pie 'n' mash and have a right proper knees-up at Cockney Sparrows Celebration at St Matthias Community Centre, as part of Cockney Heritage Festival 2013. Free, just turn up, 4-8pm
