Indian & Japanese Cuisine Bonds At Umami-Ji Sunday Social

A creative Indo-Japanese menu celebrating a long history of cultural exchange begins a series of exciting foodie collaborations between Rohit Chugh's Baker Street based Roti Chai and Masterchef winning Tim Anderson's soon-to-open Nanban.

The one-off menu includes a sharing "cheese platter" of tofu (hmm healthy!) and paneer (not quite so much). India's most popular export to Nippon - the Kare (Japanese curry) - is also on offer. Usually mild, it's spiced up for the occasion here with ‘Dhaba’ shack spices. Leave room for 'Hot to Trot', a pork combo melding Hakata ramen and the Goan spicy, slow-cooked Vinha d’Alhos and, finally, cool down with tea inspired deserts: an unusual take on creme brulee and cookies featuring confectionary superstar 'matcha'.

It's for one day only and a lot cheaper than a round trip to Osaka and Mumbai.

The Umami-Ji Sunday Social 4-course menu is £35 per person. Reservations for Sunday's event, which runs from 1-4pm, can be made by emailing or calling Roti Chai directly. The next in the series will be Sake & Spice on 14 July.
