DULWICH FESTIVAL: Street artists interpret old masters from the Picture Gallery into local murals, there's live music at the EDT, a choral festival, family concert and a curious exchange with a fair on Goose Green on Sunday. Fun starts on Friday and runs through till 19 May. Check the programme for full details.

IMPROVISATION: The Art of the Moment Festival is a "multisensory playground" celebrating the art of improvisation with a mix of musicians, DJs, VJs, performers and sound artists making it all up at The Albert, NW6 on Saturday and Sunday. As well as performances there are workshops and interactive installations. Session tickets from £7, check the website for more info.

RUGBY: The Marriot London Sevens competition at Twickenham offers two days of top rugby action with a carnival atmosphere. Day tickets from £27.25, prebook.

SCARECROWS: Sometime Soon arts have been working with eight groups (mainly young children) across Southwark to create 40 scarecrows that celebrate the heritage of the area. These scarecrows have been mysteriously appearing around the Dulwich area and from today are on display at Dulwich Library. Free, just turn up.

COLLECT: The international art fair for contemporary objects celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2013. As well as galleries and artists exhibiting, there are talks and events throughout the weekend. Runs 10-13 May at the Saatchi Gallery, tickets from £11 in advance.

NEW MUSIC: Discover new sonic pleasures at the Barbican with A Scream and an Outrage, a weekend of six sessions curated by Nico Muhly. Check the website for times and tickets.

INTERNATIONAL FILM: Check out the Palestine Film Festival programme and Le Long Weekend.

TREE HEALTH: Open Air Laboratories run free workshops on tree health this weekend in Hyde Park, so you can find out how to keep your Oaks, Ashes and Horse Chestnuts in top condition. This event may be called off in the event of heavy rain.

BEER FESTIVALS: Beer and Cider lovers can get their fill at the Oval, Paddington and Surbiton this weekend. Cheers!

RADICALS: The London Radical Book Fair takes place at Conway Hall. Speakers include Danny Dorling, Eveline Lubbers, Wendy Cooling and Ken Livingstone plus veggie food and real ale on tap. Free entry, just turn up, 10am-5pm

MAY FAIR: The annual Richmond May Fair takes place at the Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene and The Green with charity stalls, maypole dancing, musical performances, vintage fun fair rides, crafts and food. Free, just turn up, from 10am-6pm

SOUND TRACKS: There's live music in venues along the London Overground line from Dalston to Peckham, plus musicians playing on trains as you travel between them with the Sound Tracks Festival. Day tickets £15, prebook, runs 12 till late

GETTY: Getty Images Gallery’s Best of Archive celebrates a selection of iconic images from the Getty Images Archive, the world’s largest commercial photography archive with a collection of over 90 million images to choose from. Free, just turn up, until 18 May

SPRING FAIR: Surrey Docks Farm Spring Fair Day has Morris dancing, sheep shearing, cake tables, a bouncy castle, farm animals and donkey rides. Free, just turn up, 11am-4pm

MAY IN A DAY: English Folk Dance and Song Society's May in a Day festival is back with barn dancing, maypole dancing, stories, music and crafts. £6/£4, prebook, 2pm

LOCAL HISTORY: Find out about the tombs in its churchyard in a talk at St Pancras Old Church. Entrance by donation, just turn up, 5pm

FREE FILM: The Herne Hill Free Film Festival is still ongoing. Check the website for full listings, but tonight they are screening the British premiere of The Night of the Taranta at the Half Moon Pub – a documentary celebrating the vibrant folk traditions of the Puglia region in Italy. Free, just turn up, 7.30pm

COMEDY: Ed Byrne headlines Live at the Chapel, with Tony Law, Doc Brown, Mae Martin and Andrew Maxwell. Tickest £18 / £16, starts 7.45pm

HIP-HOP: MCs and singers perform live to a six-piece band at this hip-hop night presented by Excursions. Tonight, London MC Chima Anya performs and creates spontaneous songs on the spot. There's also a character freestyle battle, and apparently last time Mr Blobby destroyed Morgan Freeman and Mother Theresa. £5, just turn up, 8pm

VINTAGE FURNITURE: The Midcentury Show is at Lords. Entry £7 on the door, just turn up, from 10am-4pm

PUPPETS: Punch and Judy Professors from around the world gather in Covent Garden today to perform and celebrate the art of puppetry throughout the day. Free, just turn up, 10.30am-5.30pm

FESTIVAL: Head to Ruislip Woods Festival today for birds of prey, ferret racing and morris dancing. Free entry, just turn up, 12-4.30pm

PARADE: The lovely outdoorsy events continue with Chestnut Sunday in Bushy Park, where there will be a parade, arena displays, live music, classic cars and a carousel. Free, just turn up, 12.30-4.30pm

GET HACKY: Join London Hackspace at their Hackspace Open Day to celebrate their news digs, with a BBQ and beer at 447 Hackney Road E2 from 1pm till late

PUPPET PLAY: Occasionally Ovid at Roundhouse's Studio Theatre retells three poems from Ovid's Metamorphosis, with puppets. £4, prebook, 2.40pm
