What’s On In London Theatre 19 – 25 March

Our pick of London’s best theatre, dance and comedy opening this week. Plus a reminder about those shows that are closing.

Tonight, a new production of Terence Rattigan’s The Winslow Boy opens at the Old Vic, starring Henry Goodman. Or you can head to Greenwich, and see the opening night of PoundTown, a gruesome story of poverty and revenge by the Kidbrooke Theatre Company at Corelli College.

Tomorrow is the first night for Proof at the Menier Chocolate Factory, the story of one woman’s struggle to cope with the legacy of her father’s genius. It stars Mariah Gale and Jamie Parker. Over at the Lyric in Hammersmith, the ever-inventive Kneehigh theatre company present Steptoe And Son, opening tomorrow. (See the trailer below.) Also opening tomorrow is Judgement at Nuremberg by Abby Mann at the Bridewell Theatre; the world premiere of musical Quasimodo by Lionel Bart at the King’s Head Theatre; and another musical, A Class Act at the Landor Theatre, by Tony Award winning lyricist Edward Kleban.

From Thursday, you can get A Guide To Second Date Sex at the Soho Theatre, or head to the Prince of Wales Theatre for the biggest musical opening of the week, The Book of Mormon. On Friday, Janice Okoh’s award-winning drama, Three Birds transfers top the Bush Theatre, following performances in Manchester. Finally, on Monday, Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw take on the eponymous roles in John Logan’s new play Peter And Alice at the Noel Coward Theatre.
