The new development that will permanently replace Streatham's much loved ice rink and add a new leisure centre, homes and – inevitably, it seems, for any new mixed use project – a Tesco, will 'top out' today. With the outer shell finished, work can start inside on creating two swimming pools and an ice rink (Lambeth council tells us this is the first time in the world a full-size ice rink has been built above a swimming pool). The leisure centre should be open later this year, and the images above show what it will look like.

89 of the 250 new homes will be run by a housing association, something the people behind Wandsworth's Sky Gardens project might want to take note of. The flats are on course to be finished in spring 2014.
