Club Watch: Easter Weekend Special

Four days of awesome clubbing fun over the Easter weekend. Kicking things off on Thursday with less a bang, more a Bruce Lee-style one-inch-punch to the knackers is Electric Minds' epic South London party. Bringing together talent from the Berghain's in-house label Ostgun Ton and Modeselektor's imprint 50 Weapons, it promises to transpose a long night out in Berlin to the confines of the Coronet Theatre.* Barker & Baumecker, Marcel Fengler and Shed in room one offers a close to peerless display of the might of Berlin techno. Take the lift upstairs to catch Brits Benjamin Damage and Addison Groove bringing UK bass and a footwork indebted bounce. A guest spot from Detroit's legendary Robert Hood surely seals the deal.

On Friday calm things down with an African tip - Plan B's Kartel party in Brixton brings a tagteam of electronic producers taking huge inspiration from the continent. Mixing African elements with Western genres isn't new, but the skill with which tonight's producers weave the sounds into their own is what so impresses. Parisian Débruit mixes Nigerian polyrhythms in with stuttering Dilla beats and day-glo Rustie synths. Glasweigan Auntie Flo's rhythms might be more traditionally dancefloor centred, but his joyous creations are no less original. London upcomer Zulu, fresh from releasing his I.N.C.L.E.H. EP on Buraka Son Sistema's label, will be making limbs flail with his Kuduro flavoured sound.

If Thursday was Germany and Friday was Africa, then Saturday night is all about New York. Make Me celebrates their fifth brithday rocking the best parties in East London with two Big Apple heavyweights in DJ Qu and Anthony Parasole. These guys deal in deep house, not of the dreamy jazzy kind but spiked with a hint of techno's disorienting darkness akin to finding an ice cube in your cafe latte. No messin', straight up edgy dance vibes for this one - fans of Levon Vincent and the rest would be foolish to miss out.

Easter Sunday is a prime day for resurrection  and so it is with Bloc making their return to London's clubbing scene. With the cancellation of their London festival making 2012 something of an annus horribilis, the team will be making amends with a series of scaled down events in happening Hackney Wick. Detroit don Omar S and Claro Intellecto are out on Saturday but our pick is a London first showcase for New York's L.I.E.S Records. The most talked about label of last year brought a stream of consistently brilliant 12" releases from a ragtag team of largely unknown American producers. Hard to categorize, the label showcases jarringly unpolished takes on analogue dance music with a raw DIY aesthetic. This show, alongside compilation American Noise, caps the end of a fine year for a label almost unheard of this time in 2012. The man behind the music, label head Ron Morelli, will be playing alongside some of the label's new stars - Steve Summers, Svengalisghost, and our tip Delroy Edwards - a house name if ever there was one.
