Random London Fact of the Day

Southwark Bridge has always felt (at least to us) like the most boring of London's bridges. It is remarkable for one thing, though: it's supposedly the bridge with the longest cast iron span in the world — 76 metres. Let's be honest, you're still distinctly whelmed.

Rosie Spinks contacted us to point us in the direction of her blog, which tells the stories of London's disadvantaged. In Rosie's own words...

At the start of this year I started a storytelling blog called A Three Course Story in conjunction with North London Action for the Homeless (NLAH), which consists of long-form Q&A's with service users of a drop-in centre that runs out of St Paul's Church, West Hackney. While NLAH has the word 'homeless' in it's name, in reality the NLAH community includes all types of people — the unemployed, the disabled, rough sleepers or just those who are short on cash and in need of a hot meal. The more time I spent volunteering at the project, the more I realised each and every person had a story to be told and, in a lot of cases, it was the kind of story that is routinely stifled or ignored by more mainstream outlets.
I like doing the blog because I think it helps redefine London's 'homeless' through the words and experiences of NLAH community members themselves. I also think it promotes a discussion of lot of issues that countless Londoners are facing—how to navigate the city when you're disabled, how it feels to have to turn up to a job centre everyday, or how it feels to live in a hostel or on benefits etc.

London Weather

Watch out for low cloud, particularly in the Drury Lane area, where the set to Shrek: The Musical is being dismantled (hat-tip to Sarah McCabe). Otherwise, expect a lamentable shitminton of a morning, with more shades of grey than the Death Star's pigeon loft. Brighter later. BBC Weather has all the details.
