The new production from visionary theatre-maker Robert Lepage arrives at the Roundhouse tonight.
Playing Cards 1:SPADES is the first in a planned series of four plays, each shaped around one suit in a deck of cards. This first part explores the theme of war and is set in the desert city of Las Vegas at the onset of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. The action mixes sex, drugs, violence and politics into an unforgettable theatrical spectacle.
Described as a “totally addictive crack-pipe of a play” by the Toronto Star, the show has been created specifically for presentation in the round within the Roundhouse’s stunning Main Space. Watch the intriguing trailer at the Roundhouse website and see what people are saying about the experience on Twitter with #lepagecards.
Playing Cards 1: SPADES is at the Roundhouse from tonight until 2 March. Tickets £15-£40 (Thu 7-Sat 9), £15 – £45.
