What do you think about time? Our pat answer is that we never have enough of the damn stuff, but that's probably because we're a bit flippant and haven't spent enough time (ahhh) considering it properly. On Tuesday there's a free event at the Petrie Museum looking at how we experience and understand time, from clocks and watches to the sun, music and Facebook.
Using artefacts from the Museum and beyond, artist-curator Cathy Haynes is putting on an event that really caught our attention by promising to incorporate apocalypse movies, the novel Tristram Shandy and why Botox makes time go faster. Cathy was formerly curator for Art on the Underground and produced Michael Landy's Acts of Kindness for the Central Line.
A word on the Petrie Musem: it's one of UCL's free museums (the others are the Art Museum, Geology Collection and Grant Museum, which houses the animal kingdom's largest penis bone) and concentrates on Egyptian and Sudanese archaeology. 80,000 items of Egyptian and Sudanese archaeology, to be precise, spanning prehistory to the Islamic period. If the timekeeping event sparks your fancy, nip back Tuesday-Saturdays 1-5pm.
