Interactive Photo: Battersea Power Station Control Room A

Photographer Will Pearson, who’s previously taken us to the top of the Shard and out across the London skyline, has taken his camera equipment to Battersea Power Station and captured the interior of Control Room #1 in stunning detail via this incredible interactive panorama. Click here, or on the image above, to launch it.

Built in the 1930s, the Art Deco-influenced room remained operational until 1975, when the ‘A’ station was closed for good (the second ‘B’ station, built in the 1950s, operated until 1983). In its heyday the space was like something out of a science fiction film, as this image shows; Pearson’s photograph shows how time and bureaucratic incompetence have both left the once-grand building in a state of immense disrepair.

There’s also collection of photographs of Control Room A by Matt Shaw, which features many close-ups of the knobs, switches and dials that once powered London.
