Art Preview: Japan Earthquake Press Photos @ Oxo Gallery

It’s been nearly two years since the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami devastated the East Coast of Japan, claiming over 15,000 lives, causing billions of pounds worth of damage and a meltdown at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

To mark the occasion an exhibition of journalistic photographs will offer some hope for the future, it will show the devastation wrought but will also focus on the rebuilding efforts of the past two years. Included is a photograph of the lone pine tree in a scenic area that survived the tsunami and has since become a symbol of hope and of a nation’s spirit in the face of adversity.

This will undoubtedly be an emotionally powerful exhibition showing us both the terrible destruction and the subsequent rebuilding of East Japan.

Great East Japan Earthquake Press Photo Exhibition is on display at the Oxo Gallery, Oxo Tower Wharf, SE1 9PH from 5-17 March. Admission is free.
