Things To Do In London Today: 7 January 2013

The Lexington, for all your pop quiz needs.

We’re back after a long Christmas break! If you’ve not already done so, you can subscribe to these daily listings and have them delivered to your inbox at 7am every morning.

Not much around today. London’s cultural venues are still nursing the Christmas hangover.

GIVE BLOOD: Please give generously at either St Olave Parish Hall (Fenchurch Street), or the West End Donor Centre (Margaret Street). Free, just turn up, times vary

FOLK DANCE: Watch Fowlers Molly dancing on their usual Plough Monday tour in the Greenwich area, starting around 8pm at the Ashburnham Arms then on to the Morden Arms to dance around 8.45pm and finishing at the Richard I dancing around 9.30pm. Free, just turn up

MUSICAL COMEDY: Catch Hils Barker’s clever and simultaneously silly comedy, sometimes avec guitar. Head to the Ku Bar near Leicester Square for 99 Club, also with Robert White and Caroline Mabey. £10 (door), £5 (online), 8pm

QUIZ: The Lexington, a wheezy way up Pentonville Road, has a pop-themed quiz, courtesy of Rough Trade. £1 per person, just turn up, 8pm

MUSIC: See Scottish singer-songwriter Mike Nisbet play a solo set at The Wheelbarrow, Camden. Free, just turn up, 8pm

Random London Fact of the Day
Edgware Road Tube station contains Europe’s largest vitreous enamel artwork. Just one of many factlets gleaned from Diamond Geezer’s ongoing tour of the oldest parts of the Underground network.

London Weather
Forbidding clouds choke the skies, a miserable mantle of obsidian. Southwesterly winds blow ill, auguring great famine and destitution across the land. Nought save an holy hecatomb can now assuage the yoked might of Summanus and Jupiter, commingled in that dread forge of Vulcan, where the very thrones of Olympus were quondam wrought. Shake, feeble villeins, for your day of reckoning is at hand. No rain, though…which is nice. BBC Weather has a less Homeric forecast.

Props to Londonist for marvelous deployment of word ‘hecatomb’.
