Things To Do In London Today: 25 January 2013

If you haven’t already, you can subscribe to these listings by email, to receive them in your inbox at 7am every morning.

ART: Curiouser and Curiouser, an exhibition inspired by the work of Lewis Carroll, opens at Curious Duke gallery on Whitecross Street, running till 30 January. Free, just turn up, 9am-6pm

GIVE BLOOD: Wanna donate some of your red stuff? You should give it a go...one simple act can save several lives. Today's opportunities are at The Ecology Pavilion in Mile End and the West End Donor Centre in Margaret Street (Fitzrovia). Please, consider it. You'll feel so good about yourself afterwards. Free, just turn up, times vary, check site

PHOTOGRAPHY: The Museum of London has a new photographic display by John Davies, looking at how London's highways have changed over the past 10 years. Until 16 June. Free, just turn up, 10am-6pm

BOOKS: Jane Odiwe marks the 200th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice’s publication at Chipping Barnet Library. Free, just turn up, 6.30pm

VISIONARY: Bruce Lacey has been described as "Britains most overlooked visionary" [sic - they don't like possessive apostrophes at the ICA, apparently]. The "artist, magus, robotmaker, musician and all round 'silly bugger'" is profiled in a film by Nick Abrahams and Jeremy Deller, who lead a Q&A about their biopic of Lacey at the ICA. £10/£8, prebook, 6.30pm

FREE GIG: We like Matthew E White...mostly because he's another Matthew with a coloured surname, like your humble listings compiler, but he's also much better at music and growing beards. Tonight, he plays Rough Trade East and he plays it well. As ever, buy his new album during the day and you get an entry wristband, or turn up a bit before the gig to claim one of the remainders. Free, just turn up, 6.30pm

ROMCOM: The main men behind new might-just-be-decent romcom I Give It A Year are speaking at the Apple Store on Regent Street. Free, just turn up, 6.30pm

BURNS NIGHT: Plenty of options around town to toast the Scottish poet. See our separate listings post for ideas.

MUSEUM LATES: Unwind after work with a spot of culture at the British Museum, Natural History Museum, V&A, National Gallery or National Portrait Gallery. Free, check websites for closing times and events.

ROLLER SKATE: The Friday Night skate starts at Wellington Arch. Anyone who feels competent on skates is welcome to join. Free, just turn up, 8pm.

COMEDY: There’s a new improv night in town hosted by one of the best in the business, Pippa Evans. Get to Crack Comedy in Wimbledon – anything could happen. £10/£6, prebook or turn up, 8pm

Random London Fact of the Day
Lord Mayor of London is a job, and an anagram, for random old loony.

Shout-Out for a Good Cause
How about toasting Robbie Burns at a slap up-meal, and supporting disaster relief at the same time? The Indian Ocean Disaster Relief [IODR] charity will host a combined fundraising event (with The Lord’s Taverners charity) a few days after Burns Night on 31 January. Expect Neeps & Tatties, an Address to the Haggis and live entertainment at the Grange City Hotel (the one near Tower Hill that has part of the Roman wall in its courtyard). Tickets are £70, with procedes going to the two charities. The IODR helps rehabilitate communities and orphans following natural and other disasters. It’s a completely not-for-profit organisation with administrative costs covered by Grange Hotels. Find out more about the charity here, and sign up for the fundraising dinner here.

London Weather
Slightly warmer today. By mid-morning, the sun will be reaching for his hat and, at noon, he'll be coming out to play. Hip, hip, hip hooray. Let's all forget about the somewhat dodgy second verse to that song, though. Please. More form BBC Weather.
