ART: The huge London Art Fair (pictured) is on at the Business Design Centre, Islington showcasing modern British and contemporary art from over 100 galleries. There are also talks and tours included in your ticket price. Tickets from £16 (concs. £12). Book or just turn up – open Saturday 10am-7pm and Sunday 10am-5pm.
GREAT OUTDOORS: The London Bike Show (the UK’s largest bike exhibition) is back at ExCeL until Sunday, along with the Outdoors Show and Active Travel Show. £16, prebook or turn up, 10am-6pm.
MODELS: The London Model Engineering Exhibition brings thousands of model trains, railways, boats, planes, helicopters, trucks and more to the Great Hall at Alexandra Palace. Entry £10 on the door, children £5.50. Just turn up, from Friday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.
PHOTOS: Three new exhibitions open at the Photographers Gallery on Friday, all looking at collage. Free, just turn up, open 10am-6pm Saturday and 11.30-6pm on Sunday.
MIME: London Mimefest continues with stacks of interesting, speechless shows including Blind Summit at Soho Theatre and Stan’s Cafe at the Roundhouse. Check the website for show info, times and prices.
Saturday 19 January
EYE: Celebrate the reopening of the London Eye by getting up very early for a free turn on the London Eye. Tweet @TheLondonEye #LiftLondon to take part or just turn up betimes and queue. Be prepared to take a photo or do a doodle for dismount. Get there earlier than 9.30am.
DEATH: Watch morbid films – fascinating, funny and philosophical – at Wellcome Collection as an accompaniment to their current exhibition about death. Free but book tickets for the films. The day runs from 11am till 7.45pm.
GUNS: Get down to Firepower, the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich to witness re-enactors firing a authentic World War Two 2-Pounder Anti-Tank Gun three times. Free, just turn up between 11am and 4pm.
SPAM: Watch the SPAM Office at work sorting, filtering, printing, proofreading and filing your spam emails at AND/OR, 237 Hackney Road E2 from 12-6pm.
WASSAIL: Toast the Trees at the Rotherhithe Wassail at the Brunel Museum Roof Garden. Tickets £5 advance and include a cocktail from the Midnight Apothecary. From 6.30pm.
FILM PARTY: Fringe! Film Festival throws a fundraising film and disco party at Vogue Fabrics in Dalston with shorts screening and DJs. £5 entry all night, from 9pm-3am.
MUSIC HALL: The ‘people’s pensioner’ Ida Barr celebrates music hall traditions and presents her own brand of “artifical hip hop” in the foyer spaces of the Royal Festival Hall. Free, just turn up from 10pm.
Sunday 20 January
HUMANISM: Conway Hall’s Sunday Lectures resume with a talk about Global Humanism. £3 to non-members, just turn up for 11am.
IDLING: Join the Idler Academy on the Lower Ground floor at Selfridges for a free talk about moonlight at 1pm.
ORGANS: Enjoy an organ recital at St Paul’s Cathedral. Free, just turn up from 4.45-5.15pm.
JOY: Wassail through Willesden Green High Street for a natural high, accompanied by musicians, poets and singing. Talking to strangers encouraged. Free, just turn up at the tube for 2.30pm.
FREE FILM: Watch (and listen to) Death in Venice in the Royal Festival Hall foyers from 8pm.
