Free & Cheap London Events: 21-27 January


Things to do for a fiver or less this week. Enjoy the snow while you can!

Monday 21 January

PLUTOCRATS: Go to a talk about the 0.1% wealthiest people in the world at the LSE from Chrystia Freeland, author of Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super Rich. Free, just turn up for 6.30pm.

Tuesday 22 January

SOCIALISE: Caught by the River Social Club gets together at the Queen's Head pub, Denman Street W1 for an evening of  author and poet readings plus a London themed sound quiz. Tickets £3 advance, prebook, starts 7pm.

Wednesday 23 January

POETRY: Interested in developing your poetic skills? The Poetry School launches new courses for a new term with a free event  at Tea House Theatre in Vauxhall, featuring readings from the work of last term's students and a chance to find out about the school. Free, just turn up, from 6.30pm.

DEATH: Consider human remains at The Thing Is... Death talk at Wellcome Collection. Free, prebook tickets, 7-8pm.

Thursday 24 January

LAUGH: The London Comedy Film Festival (LOCO) starts today with a session of morning laughter yoga at BFI Southbank. Free, just turn up, 9am.

Friday 25 January

CEILIDH: Celebrate Burns Night at a free night of dancing and bagpipes courtesy of the Timorous Beasties band at the Institute of Education 20 Bedford Way. Free, just turn up for 8pm.

Saturday 26 January

WALK: Walk London's Winter Wanders take place throughout Saturday and Sunday. These are free, led walks on all sorts of themes and in lots of different locations. Pick a long ramble or a brief jaunt. Free, just turn up (although a few require booking). Check the website for walks and times.

OZ: Celebrate Australia Day at the TNT Australia Day party at Infernos, 146 Clapham High St. Free entry, just turn up, from 9pm.

TWITCH: Take part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch. Watch out your window or in the local park for an hour and record the birds you see, then send off your findings. Free, all weekend.

Sunday 27 January

TIN FOIL: Make an outfit ready for our Spacetacular! space themed variety show at Leicester Square Theatre tonight. This craft activity is entirely free but if you haven't already got your ticket to the show, it's £10. That's not less than a fiver but we promise twice as much entertainment value so that really is cheap. Book now, show starts 7.30pm.
