Fire On Gatwick Express Train At Victoria

How was your journey to work this morning?

London saw flames at rush hour for the second day running at Victoria, though thankfully in far less tragic circumstances. A fire underneath an empty Gatwick Express train closed Victoria between around 7-7.45am, backing up trains all along the line. Most departures are leaving fine but there are still delays of up to 50 minutes on arrivals and platforms 12-14 are closed. There were also problems on trains into King's Cross (signal failure) and Liverpool Street (broken train at Chelmsford).

The Northern line was closed between Morden and Kennington because of a broken down train at Clapham North (which is currently being blamed for delays between High Barnet and Camden Town; ah, the crazy knock-on effect of the Underground), a signal failure on the District Line caused delays between Upminster and Barking and a signal failure at Stonebridge Park is still causing problems on the Bakerloo Line. Let us know in the comments if you got caught up in any of the mess.

And it's not even snowing yet.

Also on the Bakerloo line, staff and drivers have been taking action against a TfL decision not to "de-train" passengers manually before the train goes out of service. You'll have seen it in action: the driver going down the train and closing the carriage doors with a special button. Recent incidents include a drunk man being spotted who would otherwise been carried off, and a child who actually did end up at the depot.
