During 2012 it has played host to various art projects, including an interpretation of Orson Welles’ unrealised film Heart of Darkness, and has also hosted writers, musicians and intellectuals including Geoff Dyer, David Byrne and Imogen Heap.
The displaced vessel isn’t solely the preserve of the cultural elite, however: members of the public can apply to spend a night there. The not inconsiderate sum of £300 grants up to two people a night’s residency; tickets for January and February are available through a ballot system, and applications can be made until 19 December. Further dates will be released later in the year.
After 2013, the boat will be looking for a new residence. Suggestions are welcome; we’d quite like to see it balanced precariously on the top of the Shard.
