Candy Amsden sends us these vibrant images of the Tottenham area, all drawn on iPads.

Candy, a graduate of the Royal College of Art, has been an illustrator and designer for many years. These drawings came about after she discovered the wonders of Tottenham Marshes, and all the beautifully restored parks in Haringey. Her drawings capture the often forgotten parts of Tottenham.

The series, called “Secret Tottenham”, also has a purpose beyond the aesthetic. Card prints of the images are available to buy, with all proceeds going towards the Wards Corner Community Coalition’s legal fund.

Wards Corner is another example of a big development project displacing an existing community in favour of private residential blocks with little or no affordable housing. The development by Grainger takes a site directly above Seven Sisters Underground station, an indoor market, homes and local businesses, all of which are marked for demolition. This block also houses an unexpected gem – a three-storey former Victorian department store.

The Wards Corner Community Coalition (WCC) was formed to campaign for a community-led project at Wards Corner, one that improves the area, respects the people who live and work there and builds upon the area’s diverse communities and historic character.

The Council and Boris’s Tottenham Taskforce continue to push through the developer's plans, despite calls for collaboration on a proposal that might better serve the community. In July, permission was granted for Grainger’s latest scheme, a decision the WCC are now challenging in the courts. This challenge will cost the community about £25,000, so the WCC are calling for donations to fund this work. Proceeds from the sale of the Tottenham iPad prints will go towards that cause.
