Random London Fact of the Day
This obelisk and unusual road surface south of Finsbury Circus mark the site of an old subterranean Victorian toilet. The obelisk was installed in 1999 as a ventilation shaft for an underground gas storage tank, which presumably occupies the former toilet space. The monument commemorates architect George Dance the Younger, who laid out the Finsbury estates. Thanks to Sarah McCabe for the tip.
