Explore a ghost Tube station, view illustrations of little known parts of London, or head to a special undisclosed location to hear the Ultimate Guide to Secret London. London Transport Museum's new season of events is short but very sweet, taking you to parts of the capital you wouldn't normally see.
This year's Serco Prize for illustration sought entries "depicting little known or unusual aspects of the Capital’s history, culture, characters and communities – past or present". The 50 best submissions will go on display at the museum from 13 November to 10 December. Entries include the (supposedly) last working sewer gas lamp in Carting Lane and a pigeon disco inside Nelson's Column. Tickets are £13, which includes entry into the museum.
The Aldwych station tours give you access to the long-abandoned platforms and ticket hall of this former Piccadilly Line spur. These rare openings are always popular, so mark 19 November in your diaries, the date when tickets go on sale. The tours run on 30 November-2 December and 7-9 December. Evening visits include a short subterranean concert from the Transport for London Choir. Tickets are £25 (evening) or £20 daytime.
Finally, Londonist editor Matt Brown reveals his Ultimate Guide to Secret London...in a secret location disclosed only to ticket holders. We can't offer any clues, other than to say that it's a fairly central venue that's normally off-limits to the general public. Expect plenty of tales, from the sewers to the rooftops, as M@ recounts his adventures in the bits of the capital that few get to see. Tickets are £15, which includes a drink and future entry to London Transport Museum.
