Preview: Urban Masters Street Art Exhibition In Shoreditch

Some of the world's most famous street artists — actually, pretty much all of the world's most famous street artists — come together for a grand exhibition this week, in a former Victorian factory in Shoreditch. The likes of Banksy, Blek Le Rat, Shepard Fairey, Roa and Sweet Toof and 28 others will show off pieces inspired by the work of older masters and muses.

Street art reworkings of classic art are nothing new, but the notion seems to be reaching a crescendo at the moment. During the summer, nine street artists reinterpreted Gustav Klimt pieces, while London's Stik (not represented here) worked his way around some of Dulwich Picture Gallery's treasures.

The Urban Masters exhibition, organised by Opera Gallery, opens on Friday 9 November (11am-7pm) at Factory 7, 13 Hearn Street, London EC2A 3LS (map). The show runs until 18 November. Entrance is free. A full catalogue of the works is available in PDF here.
