Further details have emerged about the man who scaled a Whitehall statue on Friday before removing all his clothes. The police arrested Dan Motrescu, a 29-year-old Ukrainian national of no fixed abode. He was eventually coaxed down after spending several hours on top of the statue to George, Duke of Cambridge.
According to the BBC, Motrescu was “charged with an offence contrary to Section 5 of the Public Order Act, possession of an offensive weapon in public and criminal damage to property”.
The incident prompted emergency services to close a 100 metre section of Whitehall, causing significant disruption to traffic for three hours. His motivations, if any, remain unclear.
