After 10 days and nearly 300 gigs at dozens of venues, the exhausting London Jazz Festival closed on Sunday. It is great news for the jazz world that the festival continues to grow and flourish, taking over a bit more of the capital each year.

Organisers are reporting excellent ticket sales, right from the headline events at the Barbican Centre and Royal Festival Hall down to pubs and clubs all around town.

Featuring images from just a handful of shows from the festival, this selection taken for Londonist nevertheless captures the spirit and intensity of improvising musicians from all over the world. Roll on next year.
