Art Review: Anthony Lister - Unslung Heroes @ The Outsiders

Described as Australia’s best contemporary artist, The Outsiders gallery lends itself entirely to this exhibition by Anthony Lister. Titled “Unslung Heroes” it merges hedonistic character portrayals with skillful drawing techniques. The “after party revelry” composition plays out on large scale canvases and carefully mastered sculptures.

Using mixed mediums such as charcoal, acrylic, spray paint and oils, and a restricted palatte of white, black and red, elegant figurative art is combined with graffiti style. The occasional grey tones he adds are ironically achieved by using a buffing paste used by councils to eradicate graffiti.

Four pieces have appeared on walls in East London in the lead up to this exhibition, etched on the panelling of the Truman Brewery car park, King Johns Court car park and Great Eastern Street, these East End treats should be quickly seen before they receive a high dose of their own medicine!
