London is a dirty place. It's easy not to notice the army of people who battle the dust, pollution, litter and detritus that covers it. This gallery puts them centre-stage, snapped in the course of cleaning our streets, windows, gardens and more unusual items as an essential part of the cityscape.

Many thanks to the photographers for sharing their shots in the Londonist Flickrpool: Andy Worthington, bradman334, Mike King, ProphecyBlur, Gaz-zee-boh, Andrew Bissett, psyxjaw, Mr Tudor, Homemade, Tom Hurley and McTumshie once and twice.
