Oxjam 2012: London Takeovers

Oxjam is month-long celebration of live and local music talent across the UK, in aid of Oxfam. This weekend sees six Takeovers — multi-venue music festivals showcasing brilliant new bands and DJs for a tenner or less. Here's our heads up on this weekend's musical mayhem.


Saturday 20 October

Chiswick
Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson is opening this one with 80 bands, six Djs and street performers across High Road House, The Gunnersbury, Hogarth Health Club, The Old Pack Horse, The Tabard, Pickwicks, Packhorse & Talbot (tickets/wristband from £13 adv).

Croydon
Croxjam's massive, taking place on Thursday and Friday nights as well as all day Saturday at Scream Lounge, The Ship, Green Dragon, Matthews Yard, The Edge, Black Sheep Bar, Half & Half, The Oval (tickets/wristband £5 minimum donation).

Kilburn
Listen to loads of local talent at the North London Tavern, Power's Bar and the Black Lion, all on the Kilburn High Road (tickets/wristband £10).

Stoke Newington & Dalston
Oxjam Stokey promises the best up and coming bands from the epicenter of the London music scene at Bar Tipsy, Bar 23, Hysteria, Kristina Records, The Moustache Bar, The Nest, The Waiting Room, The Victoria, Trash Bar and Question Mark Bar (tickets/wristband £8).

Sunday 21 October

Brixton
Experience "everything from spoken word, to electronica, grime and rap to dubstep, dancehall and acoustic" at The Dogstar, Market House, Kaff Bar, The Windmill and the Ritzy, (tickets/wristband £8).

Shoreditch
40+ acts play Boxpark, Concrete, Mother Bar, Queen of Hoxton & Bedroom Bar (tickets/wristband £10).

Next weekend

Shepherds Bush does it Halloween Style in partnership with label Wall of Sound on Saturday 27 October at The Defector's Weld, The Melrose, Shepherd's Bar and Raving Buddha (tickets/wristband £10).

Islington and Clapham were last weekend. Sorry.
