A couple of new openings of note this week, and you won't be surprised to learn that most are heavy on the meat. The latest arrival to try and tame London's seemingly insatiable appetite for hamburgers is Burger Breakout at the Old Crown pub on New Oxford Street. With a menu favouring the kind of wacky monickers pioneered by Lucky Chip (Bambi Bought It, a venison burger, is not atypical), BB is the follow-up to proprietor Dave Herne's wildly popular 24-hour pop-up in Chad's Place earlier in the year. We haven't been yet, but early buzz is good, and the Whiskey Beast (Dry Aged Orkney beef patty, treacle cured bacon, strathdon blue & whiskey mustard) come highly rated.
If that doesn't cure your protein cravings, make a beeline for Beard To Tail in Shoreditch, which opens Monday 8 October. It's yet another popup-turned-legit, but it comes from the good folk at Callooh Callay, so expectations are high. As you might glean from the name, it's all about the meat, with nigh on every scrap of the ill-fated beast being served up in some fashion.
The Disappearing Dining Club marks its second birthday on 6 October with an all-night dinner dance, comprising a five-course meal in an as-yet undisclosed location (though we're informed it is a "huge underground gallery/warehouse"). Tickets cost £55, and are available here; after the meal, the place will be open till the very wee hours for dancing and merriment; if you fancy getting your rocks off without the accompanying chow-fest, tickets to the dance can be bought for ten quid.
