Dance Around London: November 2012

Quirky dance picks this month include group hugs, NeoBallet, a Palestinian Henry V, Kung Fu and a diptych from Rosas.

Start the month with a look back over 30 years of Phillipe Decoufle with Panorama - a new production drawing on eight works and promising to be a "true spectacle" (take a look at the gallery photos online) at Sadler's Wells from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 November, tickets from £12.

Feel some affection with promenade performance Group Hug by dance group Mystery Skin, led by Roberta Jean, which both celebrates and dismantles communal states and actions. Contemplate the subtle frenzy of everyday interaction and grab one of the hugs on offer in the process on Saturday 3 November at Greenwich Dance Agency from 6pm, tickets: "pay what you can afford", lovely.

Catch something brand new with the world premiere of Life! from ambitious, emerging company NeoBallet. This is life as seen through the eyes of a young girl, portrayed through highly physical neoclassical ballet, which aims to revolutionise ballet and compete with pop culture. Try it on Monday 5 and Tuesday 6 November at The Place, 8pm, tickets £15.

Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s Rosas present two new works, conceived as a diptych, Cesena and En Atendant at Sadler's Wells over a five night residency from Monday 5 to Friday 9 November, tickets from £12.

Passionate Palestinian dance troupe Al Zaytouna Dance Theatre bring Unto the Breach, a dance adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry V set in modern-day Palestine to Finchley's ArtsDepot. Fusing Palestinian folk and contemporary dance with poetry and film, the show uses the battles within the Shakespeare classic as a metaphor for elements of the Arab Spring. See it on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 November, tickets £16-£19.

The ever brilliant Jasmin Vardimon Company — which mixes up a melting pot of elastic contemporary and urban dance with physical theatre — question freedom of imagination with the help of some crazy visuals and sets in Freedom on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 November, 7.30pm at Sadler's Wells, tickets £12-£27.

Visual artist-cum-performance artist Hetain Patel's Be Like Water experiments with a combination of Kung Fu, Spider Man and the entangling of cultural identities from Bolton to India and employs performer Yuyu Rau as an avatar. That's got to be worth a watch on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 November at the Linbury Studio Theatre downstairs the at Royal Opera House, 7.45pm. Tickets £7-£17.
