Camden Has UK's Most Blocked High Street

Camden High Street has been named the most cluttered in the UK, a title bestowed upon it by the charity Guide Dogs.

Their survey discovered 109 separate obstacles blocking the pavement between Camden Town tube and Camden Lock, ranging from cafe A boards and bins to cycle racks and cars parked on pavements. They're obviously focusing on accessibility for blind and visually impaired people, but even we found a recent walk up that stretch of road incredibly frustrating. And we only need glasses for peering at computer monitors.

Upminster, Harlesden and Richmond also came out badly. There is a general push for removing street clutter – Exhibition Road being a prime example – which can only be a good thing for everyone (though there are strong criticisms from blind campaign groups about the shared space aspect of that scheme). Then all we'll have left to dodge are the guys selling weed by the bridge and teenagers in Nirvana t-shirts, but at least they (occasionally) respond to an "excuse me".
