The Young Masters Art Prize is an initiative launched by the Cynthia Corbett Gallery to identify works by new artists that have drawn inspiration from the Old Masters  — used in this sense to refer to famous artists of eras gone by. The artworks vary from clear homages to those that have drawn inspiration from a classic work yet taken it in a new and tangential direction.

The shortlist is made up of over 25 artists working in various media and we're certain it will be a tough choice for the judges to pick an overall winner. That person receives £5,000 and the opportunity to exhibit with the gallery.

Art is all about how previous generations inspire those that follow, so it'll be interesting to see how these artists have used recognised masterpieces to shape their own works. And of course to see who gets crowned the overall winner.

The Shortlisted Artworks are at Sphinx Fine Art,  125 Kensington Church Street, W8 7LP from 9-26 October. The winning and commended artists will be on display at 27 Cork Street, W1S 3NG from 19-24 November. Entrance to both exhibitions is free.
