There are rumours around Hornsey, Muswell Hill and St. Ann’s stations in Haringey, Gipsy Hill, Dulwich and South Norwood in Lambeth and Southwark, and front counter closures that are apparently temporary at Clapham, Cavendish Road and Gipsy Hill again. Hampstead police station could become a free school. (Know of any more? Tell us in the comments.)
There’s bugger all coming out of City Hall apart from repeated statements from Boris Johnson that
no front counter will close unless an equivalent or better facility for public access has been identified
What those equivalents are, are still to be seen. Desks in local supermarkets have genuinely been suggested. With Sainsburys taking over the outpatient pharmacies at Guy’s and St Thomas’s, this seems to be the way the wind is blowing. The amount of time it’s taking for anything concrete to come out is frustrating local communities and the London Assembly. Members keep hitting a brick wall when trying to get any information out of the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (which supervises the Met). It seems fairly clear from local briefings that closures are on the cards, and this delay is only creating worry and conspiracy theories. As soon as there’s any definitive news we’ll let you know.
