We’re back from a summer break, with all the best sci/tech/geek events over the coming week.

Monday 3 September

SCI-FI: Watch Aliens (easily the best installment in the franchise…only an idiot would argue otherwise) at Greenwich Picturehouse, followed by a discussion with Royal Observatory astronomers about just how realistic it all is. £11.10, 6.30pm, @GreenwichSciFi

BOOKS: This month’s Fiction Lab, a book club for science-based novels, features Mobius Dick (sounds painful), by Andrew Crumey. The event is at the Royal Institution. FREE, 7pm

Wednesday 5 September

CYBORGS: Two real-life cyborgs (or so they call themselves) are at Wellcome Collection to discuss body enhancement. With machine efficiency, the event repeats on Thursday and Friday at the same time. FREE, 2pm (6pm on Thur)

MEDICINE: Sam Alberti, Director of Museums and Archives at the Royal College of Surgeons, talks about Victorian medical museums at the Last Tuesday Society’s 11 Mare Street venue. £4-£12, 7pm

THEATRE: Game of Life, a new show that riffs on scientific concepts and the mathematical phenomenon of emergence starts a three week run at The Yard, Hackney Wick today. £9, 8pm

QUIZ: Londonist M@ hosts a brand new weekly quiz at The Monarch in Camden Town. Expect fiendishly weird rounds on everything from famous Grahams to robot pets, plus crap prizes. £2 per person, 8pm

Thursday 6 September

BOOKSENSE: Visit the Wellcome Library to read, feel, small and even taste literature, in a weird-sounding sensuous book event. FREE, 3pm

NATIONAL TREASURE: David Attenborough remains a popular cove. Hear him talk about his new book, Drawn From Paradise, at the Institute of Education on 27 September. £10/£15

DINO-SNORES: The Natural History Museum’s ever-popular sleepover for children (with adult accompaniment) is back on 22 September. Minimum of five children and one adult per group. £49 per person

    Fancy some philosophical debate about saintliness and sin, within the lavish settings of a baroque royal palace? Of course you do.
    Tonight the Idler Academy take over Hampton Court Palace to present ‘An evening of virtue and vice’, looking at lives of the righteous and not-so-righteous, with philosopher Dr Mark Vernon. Inspired by the palace’s current exhibition of royal mistresses, actors guised as Charles II and Nell Gwyn will mingle with the crowd, and there’ll also be music by Renaissance guitarist Michael Tyack.

    “Aliens (easily the best installment in the franchise…only an idiot would argue otherwise)” – ‘easily the best’? I think you need to re-evaluate what makes a good film. Aliens was a James Cameron action film, the others were closer to the horror film of the original.
