Preview: Branding James Bond

The film industry is full of brands. Batman is a brand as well as a character. Actors like Tom Cruise can also be considered as such — "the new Tom Cruise film" is as likely to be used in conversation as the title of that film. James Bond is perhaps the most enduring example of this notion, developed over 50 years and numerous portrayals.

Two days before the release of the latest 007 installment, Skyfall, the Museum of Brands in Notting Hill (a film brand in itself, thanks to the 1999 rom-com) puts on an evening examining brands and branding within the film industry. Dr Finola Kerrigan of King’s College London and Daragh O’Reilly from University of Sheffield will talk through numerous examples. The event takes place on 24 October, 6-7.30pm. Tickets are £10, which includes entrance to the museum and a glass of wine or soft drink.
