Nice piece – it was an excellent final fling for the Games! Just as an aside, though, those aren’t Games Makers milling around – they’re the lovely pink London Ambassadors who were out and about in town helping people to get around and get a real feel for the city :-)

Cheers – I’ll correct. To my shame, I never learnt what the difference was. They were all equally lovely and helpful.

I think that was a common misconception, but sadly it meant that the Gamesmakers received loads of credit and the London Ambassadors virtually none. To clarify, Gamesmakers = LOCOG, 70,000 of them for ‘use’ inside the venues, purple & red uniforms. London Ambassadors=Boris, 8,500 of them stationed outside the venues and around London, airports & stations helping people get to grips with the city, pink n purple uniforms. Both groups were volunteers, who’d been training for over a year.

We tried to engineer a mass brawl across the Mall on Monday, but we were outnumbered, I mentioned Thermopylae, but nobody seemed to know what I meant. There were also a few hundred TfL Ambassadors confusingly wearing almost the same uniform as the London Ambassadors! Other Ambassadors outside London had similar uniforms, i.e. Eton Dorney Ambassadors, Surrey Ambassadors, even Coventry Ambassadors!
        So broadly, purple=’Lord’ Coe, Pink=Boris.
G4S wore green, though you wouldn’t have noticed many of them ;-)
